Chicken breasts are one of the healthiest meat options available to all consumers.

What makes this meat so… special?

For Every Chicken Breast (vary between producers)…

  • 280 calories
  • 6-7 grams of fat
  • 50 grams of protein

Crazy! … I no. But there is more!

  • vitamins – E, B5, B6, B12, riboflavin, niacin, and thiamin
  • minerals – phosphorus and selenium (there are other minerals but trace amounts)
  • High in OMEGA-3 Fatty Acids – heart healthy!!!

What’s the best way to prepare breasts?

Thought you’d never ask! – Filleting, seasoning, then grilling.

What’s ideal about filleting?

(My buddy in the picture laid it out really clear.)

By filleting, the breast its allowed to lay flat resulting in a larger surface area to season. Because its essentially cut in half means its thinner, and will grill quicker. Oh, and you always want to use a non-serrated blade when cutting raw meat. If not, you’ll tear the flesh.

Filleting chicken breasts is an art (still have yet to master). Takes knowledge, time, and steady hands. Thanks to my buddy above! Who introduced me to filleting, and has forever changed my grilling, for the better.

↑ this video does a nice job.

First off, having a little background information on the paleolithic diet would be beneficial; HERE (the guy at fitbomb.com knows his stuff!)

Food List : (Grocery List)

*This list is comprised of pretty much all the food I consume throughout the week (not strictly paleolithic diet worthy, but healthy). Note that I don’t buy organic items:

1. ) too expensive

2. ) similar nutrition value

In the future its possible I could switch, but for now I’m in college. Save the mula.
Also, know that I do stick to the paleolithic model: little fruits, mostly veggies, lean meat (size of palm).

That being said; onward..

  • Turkey – great source of protein, lean in fat %
  • Chicken Breast – high in protein, low in fat
  • Tuna (canned) – great source for omega-3 fats, high in protein, great source of vitamins and minerals
  • Eggs (2 dozen) – for breakfast, pre/post workouts, has high protein, great for brain power, *can hard boil!
  • Almonds (raw, no salt) – healthy fats, good protein, beneficial vitamins
  • Pistachios – *favorite snack, heart healthy, nutrient rich
  • Mushrooms – low calories, high in potassium, antioxidants
  • Broccoli – vitamin A, calcium, fiber
  • Carrots – high nutrient content, antioxidants, decrease risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Bananas – potassium, natural sugars (POWER BOOST), antioxidants
  • Lettuce – great for disease fighting, antioxidants, vitamin C, *darker the better!
  • Blackberries – nutrients, vitamin E, dietary fiber
  • Raspberries – loaded w/ nutrients, antioxidants, fiber
  • Orange Juice (w/calcium & vitamin D) – quick sugars, added nutrients, immune system booster
  • Water – essential for life!

I’m still looking for more snacks and quick meals to consider; hopefully more to come.

Greetings fellow bloggers!

Health; Lifestyles. blog is directed towards those looking for information to promote and maintain a health lifestyle. When I say “healthy lifestyle” my reaction is to compose a list of multiple factors that influence one’s health, mostly positive factors. These topics range from (but certainly not limited too):

  • nutrition
  • supplementation
  • workout regiments
  • extracurricular activities
  • and virtually anything that makes one’s self happy!    🙂

Throughout the course of the semester, I will compose an archive (through this blog) of healthy lifestyles and break down each component that comprises a healthy lifestyle, to fully understand what it is that makes someone happy. If your a science person its highly likely that I will get into detail regarding cognition and endorphins to elaborate on the concept of happy from a scientific perspective. Of course, the bulk of the information in this blog will primarily entail the concepts bulletined above. I also want to make a point that regardless one’s physical appearance, all it takes to achieve happiness is a great mind set and to keep following one’s dreams.

On that note, expect more posts come. As I look forward to feed back on what I believe composes a healthy lifestyle and how to go about achieving/maintaining it.
